NOISE ENGINEERING BASIMILUS ITERITAS ALTER

The Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas alter is one of the most lauded modules in Eurorack: one of the most flexible single devices for the creation of percussion and synth sounds. The BIA is essentially a complex drum voice created from six oscillators and a noise source, complete with voltage control of every parameter. This legendary module has been revamped with a stylish new black panel.

Different timbres can be achieved through the various modes that change the interactive behavior between the oscillators. Skin mode is an additive synthesis-based algorithm, while Metal utilizes more timbrally complex sounds by introducting cross-modulation of the oscillators. Liquid is the third synthesis mode, and is perfect for achieving just that—dripping, wet percussive sounds. Each of these modes can be accessed via a dedicated CV input for mode selection. This allows you to transform your drum sounds throughout a single sequence—which is perfect for the causation of some casual chaos in your patch, or for creating the illusion of an entire drum kit.

The BIA's pitch and spread controls affect the fundamental of your first oscillator and then offsets the remaining five across various ranges for dense harmonic and timbral alterations. The Harm control affects the module's harmonic decay, meaning that individual volume for each voice is adjusted in accordance with each distinct decay value. Additionally, the module's wavefolding sections directly alter the BIA's internal sound source—which is very useful for creating complex percussion sounds.
